Autumn Night In
Posted on October 8th, 2018
Once a week I believe that it’s essential to have some time to indulge in some at-home beauty treatments and give yourself a pat on the back for getting through the week. With a young daughter I find that my life is all about her (and so it should be) but I know that when I feel like I’ve taken care of myself I’m a better wife, mother and friend.
Monday night is generally my pamper night and after putting my daughter to sleep I like to run myself a bath, put on as many masks as one can possibly put on, light a few candles and try and relax to the best of my ability. The first thing I do is light my favourite candles, I’ve been a sucker for Diptyque ever since I can remember, they remind me of my mother. My favourite scents are Baies and Feu de Bois (which is perfect for autumn and winter). I run myself a scorchingly hot bath and combine Epsom salts, Weleda Lavender Relaxing Bath Milk and a little bit of Laura Mercier’s Creme Brûlée Honey Bath (love nor money could get me out of this bath). Soak to your hearts content.
While my bath is running, I brush my hair using my trusted Tangle Teezer and use Oribe’s Gold Lust Coconut Oil Pre-Shampooing Treatment. You need a 10p size dollop and should spread this through your hair from your cheeks down. If I’m not using Oribe’s treatment, I’ll be using Olaplex’s Number 3 Hair Perfector Mask, both of which I leave in my hair overnight. These are honestly the only two hair masks that I use and need to use.
I will also use Drunk Elephant’s cult favourite Baby Facial pre bath which is a staple in my bathroom closet. This instantly brightens up my dull, tired skin that’s seen far too many coffees and not enough water and sleep. It also miraculously keeps my skin clear and kills off any nasties which may be rearing their ugly heads (no pun intended). Unfortunately this isn’t available for purchase in the UK so I always stock up whenever I’m in the US. I will wash this off post bath using lukewarm water.
Once I’m in the bath, I like to exfoliate my body, my favourite exfoliator of all time is REN’s Moroccan Rose Otto Sugar Body Polish, which leaves and oily residue on the skin and is fantastic for those of us who have cut corners on moisturising daily. This product has seemed to last years even though it’s been a weekly staple of mine for almost a decade. Once I’ve exfoliated before washing it off, I will use a body brush to promote circulation and further exfoliate my skin (this has prevented any cellulite thus far, I cannot harp on about the benefits of body brushing enough).
Post bath and after my face is washed, I will put on an overnight mask. My favourites are from Sisley. I alternate between the Express Flower Gel and the Black Rose Cream Mask (both also are amazing on long haul flights as they are clear and keep your skin from dehydrating). I will also put on an eye mask as my under eye area has been getting dry of late (thanks to hitting my thirties). My favourite are Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Pure Retinol Express Smoothing Eye Mask (try saying that in a hurry) but I have also tried and loved Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Eye Masks. This is followed by Sara Happ’s Lip Scrub (my favourite is in Red Velvet which smells good enough to eat) and it’s partner The Lip Slip to keep my dry lips happy as Larry.
Next up, I moisturise, if I’m feeling extra fancy I’ll use Laura Mercier’s Creme Brûlée Body Souflee which is most likely what heaven smells like (but open to debate on that one) or I’ll stick to my trusted Creme De Corps from Kiehl’s.
Finally, I put on my pyjamas (I think I must have about ten pairs of the same ones, all in black), spritz my pillow with This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray and watch mindless garbage on Netflix or read a good book, I’m currently reading The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane (so far so good). Once I’m ready to doze off I try to remember to use my silk eye mask from Slip which unfortunately 9 times out of 10 I forget; perhaps it’s time to try silk pillowcases?
