SLSstyle hit a brick wall recently, which has resulted in days on end in sweatpants, dirty hair and weight gain (this may be slightly dramatic). That being said I recently feel like I have a new lease of life, I’ve got some really exciting projects lined up and I’m ready to write again. Thank you for sticking by me during my hiatus.
Enough of that, to get me out of my emotional cul-de-sac I’ve discovered some new and old favourites that I seem to be reaching for over and over again to keep me feeling and looking my best.
I used to refuse to spend money on hair products and never got why people would get themselves into debt buying shampoo and conditioner; that was until I started using Oribe’s Bright Blonde Shampoo. I have gone from being bright blonde to dark brown and now I’m somewhere in the middle and this keeps my colour bright (it always has a tendency of going brassy), creamy and the colour it’s supposed to be. Not only that, the purple colour never transfers on my hair and it’s gentle and moisturising too. This shampoo can in fact be used every wash and I will now never be without it.
Another gem from Oribe; the Gold Lust Pre-Shampoo Intensive Treatment is some serious TLC for tired, damaged, dry and parched tresses (in fact I’m now watching Love Island reruns with this in my hair). This is a jacked up coconut oil and you only need a small blob to run through the ends of your hair. This is best used at night and then shampooed out in the morning (two shampoos please). I have seen such a significant difference in my hair which sadly has the tendency to get very frizzy (think Grace Coddington) and knotty. The Intensive Treatment will be your best friend after days of heavy heat styling, colouring and days spent lying out in the sun.
This is an oldie but a goodie. I have used this mask on and off for almost ten years. Eve Lom’s Rescue Mask is the perfect mask to put on pissed off skin. If you’re spotty, blotchy, irritated or just blah this mask will deliver instant results. I always like to get the most out of my masks by spraying my face with a facial spray once it hardens so it gets to work a little harder before I rinse it off.
I’ve been on a mission to find a good eye cream for years. I’ve tried them all, generally I have found everything I’ve used previously to be too rich for my very sensitive underage cream. Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment is the perfect concoction; it’s intensively moisturising but light enough to soak in after minutes (as well as being one of the most reasonable products I’ve mentioned in this post). All in all, it’s a no frills, fantastic product.
La Mer’s moisturisers generally don’t work for me. I find them too heavy and they tend to leave a balm on the surface of my skin. Having said that, I recently was introduced to the Moisturising Soft Cream at La Mer’s pop up shop in London which has quickly become my moisturiser of choice. It’s lightweight, intensely hydrating and has left my skin looking plump, healthy and glowing.
