My favourite part of reading other beauty blogs are the product recommendations (provided that you trust the blogger and they aren’t getting bars of gold to write words of unfounded praise). Many late nights have been spent perusing posts about items that put my beauty arsenal to shame. My product shopping spree has been continual over the past few months (to the point that I’m now handing out eyeshadow palettes, brand new moisturisers and nude lipsticks to friends and family like I’m Santa Claus’ narcissistic younger sister). Having said that, I have been thoroughly enjoying testing out my new swag. My current obsessions are tried and tested and will be loved for a long time to come (or at least until my next beauty blowout).
A few months ago I received a package from Tocca and this was by far the star of the show. Stella is the perfect scent to give you a burst of energy during your morning shower and provides a touch of luxury to soften the blow of having to get up at an ungodly hour and venture out into another dark, cold morning. This lathers up incredibly well and leaves a lingering scent on the skin which, paired with its partner body moisturiser leaves your smelling fresh and bright all day. Read my review on all my Tocca goodies here.
I have only been using this for a matter of weeks now but I couldn’t imagine my evening skincare routine without it. Resveratrol B E boosts the skins defence system and promotes regeneration for improved radiance, elasticity and density all whilst you’re sleeping. This is a lightweight formula with no offensive smells which can be layered underneath a moisturiser if needed (I use a light moisturiser on top of this if and when needed). This little baby isn’t cheap at $145 but the results each morning make the price tag well worth the investment.
This was a no-brainer for me. Housing the cult classic bronzer Laguna, three blushes and a highlighter Nars’ holiday cheek palette makes the perfect travel companion (or Christmas present). Unlike most Nars packaging this is presented in a hard case (which won’t show pesky fingerprints). Virtual Domination has a perfect variety of blush colours; there’s a cool lilac pink, a peach and a brighter coral colour. The only downside to this is that the highlighter is jam-packed with chunky glitter which is about as subtle as Courtney Stodden’s chest.
My lips have been getting extra chapped of late so I’ve had to resort to the big guns to leave them butter soft in no time. Lucas’ Papaw ointment is the most effective lip product that I’ve ever used; in simpler terms it’s kicked every one of my lip balms butts. This can also be applied to dry cuticles, elbows and even to eyebrows and eyelashes for an overnight moisturising treatment. I never leave home without it.
Those of you who follow me on Instagram (here) know that I’ve recently hacked off five inches of hair (it was high time). I have promised myself that I will refrain from using heat on my hair (other than a rough blow-dry), so learning to style bobbed hair without the help of an army of heat tools has been a struggle. R+Co is my new haircare brand of choice (lengthy review on my favourite products coming soon), every single product that I’ve tried has been better than the one before. Rockaway Salt Spray is a standout winner; applied to damp hair this creates texture, movement and salty waves which are perfectly piecey. Unlike any other sea salt spray I’ve ever used, this won’t leave hair crunchy or feeling like it’s loaded with product instead it will leave your hair conditioned and smelling like summers past.
Whilst I’m happy to try every different type of skincare, makeup and haircare under the sun I have never experimented with primers. I always believed it was a base to increase the longevity of your makeup and improve the skins texture; that was until I met The Porefessional. This is hands down the best primer that I have ever used; my slightly enlarged pores around my nose were erased and my skin tone was flawless even before applying makeup. Because of the photoshopped finish this gives your skin I have used it alone without concealer on top. Makeup will last hours and appear newly applied all day (nothing will sink into fine lines or crease). Everyone should have this in their makeup kit.
