Mykonos Packing List
Posted on July 10th, 2016
It’s been a while; between a trip to Sardinia, a one year old who has started running before she can walk and a needy husband, my blog has suffered. Never again, I promise.
I’m getting ready to go to Mykonos for a week of sea, sun and probably too much tequila. Packing is most certainly an art form but planning outfits and planning ahead of time can make sure that you avoid bringing four coats, mismatched bikinis and one shoe to a trip to the beach. I’m happy to do a packing post using my formula for well-dressed travel but before I do here are a few goodies which will be making their way to Greece with me in a few days; most of them are on sale so snap them up while you can.
Heels in Mykonos are still frowned upon; you don’t want to be that girl so I suggest investing in some classic sandals. K Jaques St Tropez and Ancient Greek are my favourite for the timeless classics (no Chanel espadrilles here). These sandals travel practically everywhere with me and get better with age. I’ve packed Ancient Greek Sandals barely there Eleftheria nude braided sandals and K Jaques St Tropez Zenobie sandals which wrap around the ankle. Both perfect for days spent at the beach and early morning dancing.
A great beach bag is not an easy feat. Picking up a straw basket from a local market is always a good idea however I like something with a little more umpfh (not sure how to spell that one). Sicily Bag makes the most incredible and unique beach bags that I ever did see. Handmade in Sicily by skilled local artisans these traditional ‘coffa’ bags are a piece of art and an incredible way to make denim shorts and a white t-shirt look special.
For an evening stroll around town I like to keep my bags small with a cross body strap. My favourite Chloe Jane tasseled number will be making the journey with me. Luckily for you, it’s also now reduced by 40% should you need it on your next summer trip.
This year one pieces reign supreme. Eyes makes the best swimsuits known to man and just before the price tag sends your jaw dropping to the ground be assured that the classic colours, simple designs and incredibly flattering cuts make these pieces you’ll bring to every pool you encounter from now until forever. I love the black Solaire Saturne Cutout Swimsuit which will look perfect with your favourite pair of cut off denim shorts (like my new favourites from Alexander Wang) or your boyfriends oversized linen shirt.
For a long morning of tanning a bikini is most definitely in order. Missoni have always made my favourite bikinis, their prints, sparkly lurex fabrics and reversible fabrics make these a beach favourite for many. My recent purchase is this glistening emerald green swimsuit which is screaming for a floppy straw hat and an armful of gold bangles.
Never underestimate the importance of a beach coverup. Whilst there’s something wonderful about wearing an old shirt to the beach it’s always nice to get a little breathy summer dress to take you from paddling in the shallows to downing cocktails and dancing on table tops.
Juliet Dunn makes some of the prettiest summer dresses in town, they’re hand embroidered and whisper thin making them the perfect summer mini. This long sleeved cotton kaftan is perfect with shorts or worn alone and slightly hanging off the shoulder.
What are your must-haves for summer? Looking forward to getting some holiday outfit posts up.
