It’s not secret that skincare makes me weak at the knees. Hearing that the Pearl Spa at the Four Seasons Dubai at Jumeirah Beach offers a plethora of facial treatments quite frankly set my heart racing (not only this, they also use a stellar line up of products ranging from Natura Bisse to Sodashi and Dr Burgener). There is something for everyone; signature treatments offer the best of the Middle East. Camel milk and desert sand for body scrubs, utilising crushed pearls as a nod to Dubai’s ancient pearl industry and the infamous hamman treatments. If you’re looking for something a little more familiar, there are 24 karat facials, hot stone massages and even En Vogue, a hairdresser imported from Switzerland.

The Pearl Spa is a tranquil oasis of calm nestled in a city brimming with life, it’s a vacation within a vacation. Situated a stones throw away from the two hotel pools (one for families and one for uninterrupted, quiet bliss) and next to the lofty and incredibly well stocked gym, there is nothing larger than life and intimidating about the spa; it’s certainly not all show which instantly put me at ease. There was something incredibly refreshing to be in a serious spa, not somewhere decked out in more gold than King Midas could shake a finger at. I wanted to try the Signature Pearl Facial by Dr Burgener which is supposedly great for anti-acing and hydrating (not a bad choice considering the toll that air travel takes on my skin). My therapist greeted me on the other side of the changing rooms (which is home to a heavenly steam room and sauna) and led me to a cool simple room which was loaded with the latest skincare gadgets and contraptions.

I wasn’t familiar with Dr Burgener’s skincare products however as soon as my facial started I knew that this line meant business. The products are described as a combination between science and nature; in essence the line is packed to the brim with plant-based ingredients that actually work. The Signature Pearl Facial is a 90 minute treatment with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a facial; cleansing, exfoliating, mask after mask and a plethora of lotions and potions that promise a totally renewed, hydrated and luminous complexion. After cleansing, toning and exfoliating, my therapist showed me my skin under a black light – turns out that unbeknownst to me, my skin has gone from combination to dry (thanks pregnancy). The remainder of the facial was totally tailored around the discovery that my skin was in fact dry. Following this, I had one of the best facial massages I’ve ever had in my life. I fell asleep countless times, perhaps even let out a little snore. The gentle, rhythmic strokes of my therapists hands sent me into a quiet lull; utter relaxation at it’s best. After facial massage nirvana, it was time for the 3D sheet mask which is brimming with hyaluronic acid (a godsend for parched skin). This was a refreshing, cooling mask which was a happy escape from the desert heat outside. This instantly left my skin feeling hydrated, nourished and dare I say it, plump – my skin drank up every last drop. A Precious Pearl Serum was applied next along with the fabulous Luxury Green Caviar Cream (both of which will soon be winging their way into my medicine cabinet). The therapist finished with a head massage just as she had begun and gently sat me up to take a look at my transformation. I was gobsmacked. My skin had the kind of glow that I was promised during pregnancy (which now takes countless highlighters, foundations and strobing creams to achieve). It looked hydrated, healthy and younger than it had 90 minutes before.

Almost a week on since my facial, my skin still seems plump, it’s clearer than it’s ever been since I had a baby. Most noticeably, the texture of my skin has drastically changed, it’s consistently smooth and my pores no longer resemble a game of dot-to-dot. Dr Burgener’s products seems to be the missing link in my skincare routine, I have always championed natural ingredients but finding something that does the job is an entirely different matter. As for the Pearl Spa at the Four Seasons Dubai at Jumeirah Beach, I was incredibly impressed with the focus on functional treatments paired with the ultimate relaxation; my facial was just this, total rejuvenation with the best results I could have possibly imagined.
